The winter sports resorts of Haute-Ariège

The Haute-Ariège winter sports resorts are located in the Pyrenees mountain range. It takes about an hour to get there from Foix and two hours from Toulouse, by car.

  • The closest is the Goulier Neige resort on Montcalm. It is also the smallest in the Pyrenees. It is therefore very friendly, family-oriented and intimate. However, you will find slopes for all levels and in the absence of ski lifts, some are reserved for snowshoeing. Quiet, with course opportunities and a toboggan area with carpet, this resort is ideal for a family with beginner children.
  • Next to Tarascon-sur-Ariège, the Monts d'Olmes resort is larger. Families will enjoy the toboggan run. You can also go snowshoeing there, particularly to the Fagebelle pond or to admire a natural curiosity: an icy pond !
  • The Beille resort is especially renowned for its exceptional environment. The plateau is a remarkable natural space which attracts wildlife typical of the Pyrenees. To fully enjoy it, in addition to skiing, you can practice snowshoeing, sledding, Nordic walking, etc.
  • Ax-3-domaines is a high mountain area where you can try out very trendy sports : freestyle, boardercross, snowpark, mountain biking on snow, snake slide, introduction to mountaineering... or fun activities like igloo building.
  • The Chioula Nordic area is very close to that of Ax-3-domaines and offers complementary activities, such as cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, Nordic walking , etc.
  • The Ascou-Pailhères resort claims to be an authentic, welcoming and traditional resort, and it lives up to its promise! You will find toboggan runs there.
  • The Mijanès-Donezan resort offers a wide range of activities: Nordic area and other activities such as dog sledding, snakegliss, etc.
  • Near Saint-Girons, in the Guzet resort, you won't be bored. Alpine, Nordic, cross-country skiing, snowpark, freeride, slalom stadium, beginner's area, kid park and snow garden... There's something for everyone and you can satisfy all your sporting desires.

If you just want to walk on a beautiful white carpet, as soon as the first snowflakes fall, head to Aulus-les-Bains. It's a pleasant place to hike in the heart of its snow-covered forest.

Our tips, addresses and advice for organizing your stay

From the start of the winter season, we advise you to consult the Tourist Office websites to check access conditions and practical information for the resorts.

The resorts provide equipment rental and routes for exploring the region on snowshoes, cross-country skis, on foot, etc. Check the weather and snow conditions before setting off and follow the marked routes.

In terms of accommodation, the Ax-3-Domaines , Guzet and Monts-d'Olmes areas offer traditional, typical and rustic wooden chalets for a real immersion in the mountain atmosphere.

Between Toulouse and the Pyrenees, gastronomy is in the spotlight with gourmet, convivial specialties that are so comforting in winter.

Find some great ideas for typical Pyrenean dishes to enjoy by the fire! And if you want to get more into the action, we'll take you to eat at the foot of the slopes.

Depending on the year:

  • To get to the mountains, there are organized bus routes, including the Ski'zy bus from Toulouse to Peyragudes, or the N'Py community skibus which connects Peyragudes from Toulouse, Pau, Tarbes, Lourdes and other major cities; the skirail between Toulouse and the Guzet resort...
  • Some resorts also offer shuttle services to nearby towns, such as Ax-les-Thermes and Beille. However, there are also shuttles between resorts , for example: the Guzybus between Guzet and Prat Mataou.
  • You can also try carpooling.
