Kayak ride just 20 minutes from Toulouse

Clermont-le-Fort
Kayak ride just 20 mi ...

A nature swim awaits you just 20 minutes from the city by car. Installed in a former gravel pit along the river, the base of Canoe-Kayak Granhòta (that means "frog" in Occitan!) Opened its doors in 2016, close to the village of Clermont Lefort . The descent is possible from early June to late September, or mid-October depending on weather conditions. In nature , along the Regional Nature Reserve , you go down the Ariège Kayak independently. So let's go?

Diverse courses on the Ariège river

The three courses are located in the heart of nature , in the heart of the Regional Nature Reserve .

The course Morning is a little more technical than that of the afternoon, but nothing insurmountable! Monitors are also present at the level of the most delicate passage to ensure your safety .

We chose the afternoon route, because it is a little longer, and there are many small rapids very pleasant along the ride .

Attention, reservation required online before departure! The walk is accessible to anyone in good physical shape and able to swim, but it is not recommended for children under 7 years for security reasons.

Do not leave without:

  • closed shoes that you can wet
  • A water bottle. If you happen to forget, know that they sell at the base of Clermont Lefort.
  • Sun cream and sunglasses
  • A swimsuit for bathing breaks

The Morning Route, from Grépiac to Clermont Lefort:

7.5 km, 2h00 to 2h30 ride

Meeting at 10:30 at the Granhòta base in Clermont Lefort. A shuttle takes you to Grépiac for the departure of the ride.

The Afternoon Tour, from Clermont Lefort to Portet-sur-Garonne:

10 km, 2h30 to 3h00 ride

Appointment at 14:30 or 15:30 (only one departure at 14:30 on the weekend) path of the dredge in Portet-sur-Garonne. A shuttle takes you to Clermont Lefort for the start of the ride.

The Day Tour, from Grépiac to Portet-sur-Garonne:

17.5 km, 4h00 to 6h30 ride

RDV at 9:15 path of the dredge in Portet-sur-Garonne. A shuttle takes you to Grépiac for the departure of the ride.

Equipment before the ride

We are all equipped

A shuttle takes us from the meeting place to the starting point of the ride.

At the end of the bus , it's time to equip ! Double paddle ? OKAY. Helmet ? OKAY. Life jacket ? OKAY. Waterproof can for business? OKAY.

After a quick briefing of the staff on the safety instructions , we choose our kayak : single, double or triple. For us it will be double, for more conviviality!

Along the water, soothing landscapes and a touch of adventure

Launching kayaks

Finally to the water, we put our first shots of paddles . Phew, it's cool!

Quickly, we realize that the current is our friend, it allows us to limit our efforts and observe the surrounding flora and fauna . Who knows, maybe we will have the chance to see a Martin-Pêcheur d'Europe , or an Agile Frog !

Kingfisher

Martin Fisherman of Europe

The walk alternates between rapids , calm passages , and bathing spots . And yes, it would be a shame to leave without having a dip! Numerous beaches dot the shoreline and allow us to enjoy a refreshing break .

Swimming spot

After three hours of walking at our own pace, we arrive at the confluence of Ariège and Garonne . It's time to land the kayaks .

Exchange booths and fresh water sources are available to recover from our emotions.

Landing Kayaks

Do you remember the shuttle that was taken to the meeting place? This system makes it possible not to wait for the other participants on arrival, since our vehicle is already at the end of the course, is not it?

It's with great memories that we finish this great afternoon along the Ariège . The super organization, the safe equipment and in good condition , and the smile of the instructors made us want to test the other rides proposed by Granhòta , such as supervised outings "Kayak Afterwork" in Toulouse . Yes, you read correctly, in Toulouse ! After the visit, the team Granhòta offers an aperitif at the Guinguette Chouchou when the sky turns pink. Is not this the most unusual way to (re) discover the city of a thousand bricks?

An afternoon between relaxation and adventure
