    • Gavarnie-Gèdre is an iconic French commune in the Hautes-Pyrénées, world-renowned for its location at the foot of the majestic Cirque de Gavarnie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This commune was created in 2016 by the merger of the former communes of Gavarnie and Gèdre.

      Gavarnie

It is the closest village to the cirque and the ideal starting point for exploring this exceptional natural site. The cirque, an immense limestone wall several kilometers in diameter and more than 1,700 meters high, is a breathtaking spectacle.

Its Grande Cascade, one of the highest in Europe, plunges from the top of the cliff. The village itself has retained an authentic mountain charm with its traditional houses and its church.

Tourist activity is intense there, especially in summer, with numerous hiking trails for all levels, allowing you to approach the cirque and its surroundings, such as the Pailla plateau.

      Gedre

Situated downstream, the town offers a more peaceful setting while remaining close to major attractions. The village is crossed by the Gave de Gavarnie and is a gateway to other sites of interest in the valley, such as the Pont d'Espagne (in the neighboring commune of Cauterets) and the Gavarnie-Gèdre ski resort.

Gèdre also preserves traces of its history, with its church and traditional houses.

The commune of Gavarnie-Gèdre is a high place of Pyreneesism, cradle of legendary explorations and climbs. The natural environment is preserved, being part of the Pyrenees National Park. Outdoor activities are king: hiking, mountaineering, ski touring, mountain biking...
