Montaner Castle is a fortified castle located in Montaner, in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department. It was built in the late 14th century by Gaston Fébus, Count of Foix and Viscount of Béarn, to strengthen the defenses of his territories against the Kingdom of Aragon.
Architecture and history
The castle is a remarkable example of late medieval military architecture. It is characterized by its imposing red brick keep, which rises to a height of 40 meters, offering panoramic views of the Pyrenees mountain range and the surrounding countryside.
Gaston Fébus designed this fortress to be a symbol of his power and independence.
