SAINT-LIZIER Towns and Villages in Saint-Lizier

Located at the foot of the Cousérans mountains, Saint –Lizier, an ancient Gallo-Roman city, became an important Bishopric in the 6th century. It lost its omnipotence during the Revolution. Today, the medieval city is a stopover on the Ways of Saint Jacques.
From its past, it has preserved two cathedrals: Notre-Dame de la Sède, today within the walls of the Palais des Évêques (museum center), and the parish church, on the main square of the lower town, with its magnificent Romanesque cloister, older, also called "Cathedral" (Cathedral of Saint Lizier). It collects a treasure in the old sacristy: the reliquary bust of Saint Lizier in chiseled silver and gold dating from the 16th century and the cross of Saint Lizier in ivory and silver from the 12th century.
