    • Aurignac, a charming village in Haute-Garonne, is world-renowned for giving its name to the Aurignacian, the first Upper Paleolithic culture in Europe, dating from around 43,000 to 33,000 BC.

The archaeological site of the Aurignac Cave, discovered in 1852, has revealed some of the oldest fossil human remains in Europe, as well as flint tools, bone and ivory objects, and evidence of parietal art. Although the cave itself is no longer open to visitors for conservation reasons, the Aurignacian Museum offers a fascinating immersion into this crucial period of prehistory, presenting the discoveries and explaining the lifestyle of these early modern humans.

Beyond its prehistoric fame, Aurignac is a picturesque village perched on a hill, offering beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. There you will discover medieval streets, a Romanesque church, and the remains of a feudal castle. The village has managed to preserve its authentic charm and peaceful atmosphere.
