Mazères is a French commune located at the northeastern tip of the Ariège department, at the crossroads of three departments : Ariège, Aude and Haute-Garonne. It is approximately 60 kilometers from Toulouse.
History and heritage
Mazères is a bastide, a type of fortified village typical of southwestern France. The town has a rich history, marked by events ranging from prehistory to the Wars of Religion.
Tourism
Due to its proximity to Toulouse, Mazères has been influenced by the " pink city ", particularly in its architecture, characterised by the use of red bricks.
The town is considered an “ architectural gem ” and is one of the beautiful villages to visit in Ariège Pyrenees.
The Church of Saint-Abdon-et-Saint-Sennen is one of the places to visit.
