The Louron Valley, focused on pleasure and wonder at every moment

The Louron Valley in Pays d'Aure has not always been as we know it today. This piece of wild and natural land, where life is spread out along 14 small, typical and bucolic villages just 20 minutes from Luchon and 30 minutes from Lannemezan, was once the stronghold of breeders who practiced pastoralism and agriculture there. A simple life in the fresh air. In the 1970s, elected officials wondered how to boost this region, which was seeing its youth leave due to a lack of subsistence activities. A new economic model was then born, based on sustainable tourism and job creation to encourage mountain and well-being activities. The sumptuous Génos-Loudenvielle lake was then created, with a leisure center, which attracts visitors delighted to enjoy the beauty of the landscape in the summer months. In 1975 , it was winter sports that would slowly revolutionize life in this green setting: the Val Louron resort was created, then that of Peyragudes in 1988, a merger of two existing resorts: Peyresourde and Les Agudes. A fantastic dynamic was underway, always with the aim of protecting this splendid, natural and generous playground.

Preserved from the vagaries of time and the quarrels of History, the villages of the region are in themselves a tourist attraction, awarded the Grand Site Occitanie “Pyrénées Aure-Louron” designation in 2018. It is a region also labeled Pays d'Art et d'Histoire, the old Romanesque churches decorated with paintings dating back several centuries that you will discover there, will finish convincing you! The Louron Valley has never been as attractive as since the Skyvall valley lift was put into service! To quickly reach the slopes (in less than 10 minutes) whatever the condition of the road, this ultra-modern and very high-capacity gondola is a blessing, how could we have done without it? Summer and winter, lovers of the high mountains, hikers, mountain bikers, walkers, and of course ski enthusiasts, can climb into one of the 32 10-seater cabins, which run along 23 gigantic pylons, over a 600m drop. At the tourist reception building, all the amenities are gathered to prepare your stay in Peyragudes.

A warm and modern resort

Peyragudes is a multi-slide area adapted to all desires : whether you like to hurtle down the slopes on skis, with a snowboard, a sled, or any other unidentified sliding object, you will find a slope to do it! 19 modern and fast ski lifts (including 4 detachable chairlifts and 1 gondola) open the doors to a paradise of 65km of slopes, on 49 courses for all levels (7 green, 21 blue, 14 red, 7 black). Thanks to the rechargeable passes at the tablet terminals, we promise you that you will never again have to queue before putting on your skis. And late risers will be delighted to know that there are decreasing rates, from 12:30 p.m., for a half-day of skiing, nice isn't it?

The Peyragudes ski resort has some wonderful surprises in store for you that will delight gourmets and hikers.

Have you ever shared a meal at altitude in the magical setting of snowy nature? Every week, Peyragudes prepares a delicious dinner for you to enjoy in a warm and friendly setting. Climb aboard the passenger snow groomer for a twenty-minute ride up before settling in for an unforgettable evening with family or friends in the middle of the slopes ! The mountain is on the menu with an aperitif and tapas followed by a raclette or fondue with cold meats, potatoes and salad. Mmm, what a treat! For dessert, the homemade blueberry tart is perfect, but can be replaced by a scoop of ice cream. Do you prefer simmered dishes? Peyragudes also offers a Pyrenean formula with an assortment of duck salad, black pork stew, cassoulet or garbure with a spit cake and custard to finish. Coffee, digestif, and you're full!

How about digesting the next day on a new footpath accessible to children : the Peyraloup path? Connecting the foot of the slopes on the Peyresourde side to the Balestas sector at the bottom of slope 007, it overlooks the Louron valley with a breathtaking view of its panorama. The walk is quick since it ends in less than 20 minutes with a forest trail over 800 meters, and a return that can be done on foot or by electric shuttle. On foot, on snowshoes or in a 4x4 stroller (for hire at Maison Peyragudes), escape among the trees in the peace of nature and far from cars. The very low difference in altitude and the wide paths allow everyone to enjoy this exotic walk.
