Close to the Garonne River stands the Hôtel Assezat, considered to be Toulouse's finest Renaissance residence. Built in 1560 as the home of Pierre Assezat, the property has quite a history, having first been purchased in 1761 by Nicolas Marcassus de Puymaurin, before passing through several hands. Today, it belongs to the city of Toulouse, where it houses the Académie des jeux Floraux and the Georges Bemberg Museum.
