    • The Affabuloscope Museum at Mas d'Azil

Located in the heart of the picturesque Ariège region, in the village of Mas d'Azil, the Musée de l'Affabuloscope is an unmissable destination for lovers of art and curiosities. Created by the artist Claudius de Cap Blanc, this unique museum offers an immersive and provocative experience that appeals to visitors of all ages.

An Immersion in the Imagination...The Affabuloscope Museum is not a museum like any other. As soon as you walk through its doors, you are transported into a universe where imagination and creativity have no limits. Claudius de Cap Blanc, with his inventive spirit and impactful approach, has designed a space where every corner surprises and questions. His works, composed mainly of wood, recycled materials and repurposed objects, tell captivating stories accompanied by texts that challenge and sometimes shock, thus offering a unique perspective on the world. His unbridled creativity and crazy energy are reminiscent of those of the famous Facteur Cheval, creator of the Ideal Palace.

      Exhibitions:

The museum is organized over several floors, each with its own theme and unique atmosphere. On the first 2 levels, you will discover Improbable Machines, eccentric inventions and poetic mechanisms that defy logic and stimulate the imagination.
While on the last level, Claudius tells us the story of the first men and the origin of life, through one of the rare matriarchal societies born of history....The Pankous, through the sign of the vulva and the first representations of this door to life which connects us to Creation, to Mother Earth and to the sacred feminine.

During your visit, you will also discover several works produced on the occasion of the "Homage to Claudius" exhibition which took place in 2023 and whose museum was honored by several donations from certain artists who participated.

To go further in discovering the artist's work, we invite you to discover his "Vulvolithic Garden" also called Bethylac, which is an outdoor space located above the Prat d'Albi, ( after time). This garden is dedicated to the sign of the vulva in the symbolism it represents. It was therefore erected to honor women and Creation as a whole but also to pay tribute to all those who defied prohibitions to assert their freedoms and who through their actions allowed humanity to advance.

We visited the Affabuloscope with two seven year olds and they found a lot to enjoy, especially the wackiness of the objects and the fact that you can touch many of them. It's a great tribute to the unique creative talent of Claudius

We went as a group and all I can say is it is eclectic. There didn't seem to be any link between pieces but interesting for a wander round. Maybe I missed the point.......

Totally original museum. Though t-provoking, funny and poignant. And a fabulous little tea-room. Well worth a visit.

A good use of imagination is needed. Shame you can't operate the exhibits. An open mind required. 3rd floor displays not for children.

Very interesting, striking museum. Artist vision that challenges, sometimes almost shocking and ambiguous, often funny. Questioning our society. Break the codes. Exciting staff.

A place that creates openings to other worlds. I loved this visit, I will surely return, there is still so much to read, to discover. I loved the machines for drying tears, the machine for wrinkling...
