    • Les Forges de Pyrène: A Journey to the Heart of the Trades of Yesteryear in Ariège-Pyrénées

5km from Foix, in the heart of Ariège, the Forges de Pyrène invite you to discover a fascinating world where old trades come to life. This theme park, located in a green setting at the foot of the Pyrenees, is an immersive experience not to be missed for the whole family.

A Living Heritage to Discover in the Heart of the Pyrenees

Before the industrial era, every everyday object was shaped by passionate craftsmen. The Forges de Pyrène preserve this precious heritage by presenting more than 100 ancient trades, illustrated by an impressive collection of more than 5,000 tools and utensils. As you stroll through the Museum of Trades, every corner tells you the story of know-how passed down from generation to generation.

Lively and interactive workshops for everyone

From 10am, passionate facilitators lead workshops, allowing young and old to observe the transformation of iron by the blacksmith, the manufacture of clogs by the clog maker or the creation of baskets by the basket maker. These immersive experiences arouse the curiosity of children while reminding adults of the trades of yesteryear.

      You can also discover:

      • The bread oven, where you will be explained the secrets of baking traditional bread.
      • The 1900 school, which will immerse you in the atmosphere of a classroom from yesteryear.
      • The gold prospector, who will introduce you to the techniques of searching for gold in rivers.
      • Tales, where captivating stories will transport you into a world of legends and traditions.

      An immersion in history

Discover the martinet forge, a historical vestige listed as a monument, which bears witness to the metallurgical activity of the region since 1420. The Iron Museum retraces the epic of iron in Ariège through captivating exhibitions and audiovisual projections.

      Leisure areas for children

Les Forges de Pyrène offer a leisure space where children explore Ariège biodiversity with Caramel the squirrel.

Don't miss the interactive show "The Ages of Life", which immerses visitors in Ariège in the 1900s.

A playground and old wooden games guarantee moments of fun ! Discover our adorable mascots : sheep, donkeys and chickens, who accompany the children in their adventures!

An Ideal Place for a Family Picnic

To make the most of your day, the Forges de Pyrène have a picnic area and a catering area at the entrance to the site.

Before leaving, don't forget to visit the souvenir shop to take a little piece of Ariège home with you.

I confirm for the 2024 heritage days my little disappointment from a few years ago. We are not at all immersed in the past with the entertainment! The 1900 school with the teacher in jeans, t-shirt and sneakers... look for the mistake... All the animators without exception are dressed like us, it's a little surprising-disappointing. And a huge surprise when visiting the reserves: there are dresses, shirts, pants, skirts, from the period!, which are stored in wardrobes.... with moth repellent products... And here I don't understand. Neither displayed (there is a large empty space in the clothing trade room) nor worn on a few occasions which deserve it... What is the point?? The reserves are full and yet there is space, in the huge empty entrance, in the trades museum, in the school... not to mention outside. What are they waiting for to present these wonders? Create a real mini farm with a vegetable garden? The potential is great but I feel like they are resting on their laurels.
