    • The Church of Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines is an iconic historical monument in Toulouse. It was built on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman necropolis dating back to the 4th century, making it one of the oldest churches in southwest France.

      Medieval history

In the 11th century, the church was given to the abbey of Moissac by the Count of Toulouse.
From the 12th century, it became an important public place in the city.
Throughout the Middle Ages, Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines was a high place of Christian life in Toulouse.

After the French Revolution, the church was seized as national property and converted into a cannon foundry. It was deconsecrated as a church in 1966.

      Cultural reconversion

Listed as a historic monument in 1977, it was restored and transformed into an auditorium for the Toulouse Regional Conservatory in 1998.

Today, it hosts concerts and cultural events, offering a unique setting combining history and music.

      Architectural and archaeological significance

The church features elements of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, testifying to its evolution over the centuries.
Its archaeological crypt offers a valuable insight into the Christian origins of Toulouse.

Very surprised by the name. This attracts an expected curiosity on a monument that is simple in its external appearance. Very close to the University of Toulouse, we wonder about the historical link between these two institutions.

The church was closed when I was here. From the outside it’s not the most interesting church but it’s possible the inside is great. But it was closed on a Sunday afternoon.

Man kan besøge mange prangende og flotte kirker, men man kan også besøge en kirke alene, fordi den er interessant. Det sidste er tilfældet med denne kirke, som har historisk og arkæologisk...
