An emblem of the pink city, it has proudly overlooked the Garonne River for 4 centuries without letting itself be swept away. This magnificent structure, a Renaissance masterpiece, was an innovative creation for its time, with arches, rectangular piers and openings that let water through during floods. Built between the 16th and 17th centuries, its primary function was to allow troops to pass through to defend the city from the Spanish, on the instructions of King François 1st. Inaugurated in 1659 by King Louis 14 after two centuries of construction, it is now the oldest bridge in Toulouse.
