The city prefecture is spread out at the foot of its feudal castle built on a rocky outcrop in the 10th century and symbolizing the power of the Counts of Foix. These lords supported the Cathar cause in the 13th century. Its three imposing towers and its rampart offer an exceptional panorama of the surrounding landscape.
The building houses the medieval collections of the Ariège departmental museum. At the foot of the castle stands the Saint-Volusien church in southern Gothic style, built in the 12th century and then altered in the 17th century. The historic center allows you to discover pontils (covered passage bringing together houses over the street), fountains and half-timbered house.
